Re: Choose a new moderator?
Thu, March 29, 2007 - 1:36 AMOr Me.
Tell us more Marvin.
Marvin has been cool to know over on the great
Robert Anton Wilson tribe. Of course RAW was where many of us where introduced to
Reich and went deeper with Wilson's great play WR in Hell.
I've read and underlined heavily Function of the Orgasm many years ago.
Read Peter's Book of Dreams twice. (love the kate bush too)
Own Mass Pysch of Fascism and Listen Little Man which I have read in chunks.
Lots of articles.
Some side books...
The Orgone Accumulator Handbook
and the massive Saharasia that RAW recommended.
I don't know the tech stuff very well, can't make orgone stuff myself,
(I own one nice piece of orgonite made for me by a friend)
but I understand the theoretical / philosophical stuff as well as anyone...
I suppose I should state that for all my love of the man part of
that love is for areas in which I do not agree with him...
his aversion to mystical ideas seems to be a bit off
considering much of his ideas where mystical
and could have been integrated much better into his
analytical world view.
my email address has the word orgone in it since I got on black and white
aol back in the day.
The balance of sex / spirit, science / spirit is at the heart of all my work.
I think I'd be a good moderator because I am very much oriented toward
communication and balance.
So what do you think on this Marvin?
Or what else do you think in general about this?
And any others thoughts.
Let me know what you think.
Taking over this tribe doesn't seem to me to necessarily be about
making it tremendously active, but more of the occasional stimulation
mixed up with a good dose of thoreau's "the government that rules least
rules best."
cheers

Re: Choose a new moderator?
Thu, March 29, 2007 - 3:34 PMI own all of Reich's books, and read a couple of them... enjoyed two years of real honest-to-goodness reichian therapy... and am the webmaster of this fine orgonite website: www.artsyorgone.com/
So I vote revrob for moderator!
Or anyone really... I'm just sitting in a hotel in SF killing time (I'm 46 days late for the RAW memorial, as promised... the lasagna is still pretty tasty!)

Re: Choose a new moderator?
Thu, March 29, 2007 - 6:55 PMI just saw there was no moderator so I did my little thing that I do when I see tribes I like that don't have a moderator. I typically don't wait around to much relying on the electoral vote. lol If tribe sends me a message stating I'm the new moderator I can then pass the torch to whomever would like it. I would like it myself but I think revvrob has more knowledge about the subject and has stated he is interested. If I am made moderator then I will just designate revvrob unless someone else wants is and there is some huge democratic debate that needs to happen. : ) I'm a total tribe whore and moderating certain tribes I think are really interesting is kind of like having my own 15 minutes of fame. I havent become a rockstar, yet (if ever) so moderating cool tribes has kind of become a fetish of sorts for me. lol ANYWAY, this tribe needs a moderator. I became moderator of the "Ethical Consumerism" tribe and while I do try to consume ethically I recently bought a 2007 Corvette and that's not really the most ethical car purchase these days. But it is ALOT of fun! : ) I asked other people on that tribe if someone else wanted it and they were all about me being moderator so I still am for now.
Okay, I'm apparently writing a book here now. Maybe later tonight or tommorrow we will see if we have a new moderator. Also, I totally agree with the route of quality content over quantity. If it turns into mass quantities that's fine as long as it's relevant and interesting. I hate to see when tribes get filled up with so much crap that it becomes frivolous. I hate to say it but even though I still feel the same way about Bush and 911 and other "hot topix" I do tire of the overkill. It's been a while since I've seen anything new that has really reached out and grabbed my interest. It's the same old stuff. Regarding those subjects we really need some new filthy dirt that is truly going to affect change. Otherwise it's just more of the same. AND, I don't claim to have all, or any, of the answers for a solution to a variety of dilemas. But with open discussion maybe one day we will see change. I feel certain we will and soon but not what I or alot of people hope for. More of the nightmarish scenario. Yes. I am the eternal pessemist! -

I am always interested in who was previously the moderator and why they arent anymore. Are they still on tribe? I don't think it should be required that the moderator know everything about the subject. If you know something and have an interest in it then that's good enough in my opinion. If a moderator is a total brainiac and a living breathing well of knowledge great. I know what I know but don't know it all but am open minded and hungry to learn more about many things. I think that is how most of the people I think of as incredibly intelligent got to where theyre at. Dedicated pursuing of info on subjects they are interested, fascinated and occasionally obsessed with. : ) That and the fact that some people are just naturally super fucking intelligent. lol

Re: Choose a new moderator?
Fri, March 30, 2007 - 12:27 PMWell I'm still up for it.
I like the sound of your moderator fetish Marvin.
Reich has been a very close affinity for me for years...
I really kinda love the guy
(a total genious who had great insight, was rejected by so many,
and became more and more isolated, creating a critical lack of feedback
and a more and more unique individualized world view based on his experience,
his brilliance, and his compassion.)
One thing to note... some people have very strict ideas about
Reichian research and therapy and others have a much looser interest
in the ideas without any adherance to a specific code or what is right Reich
or wrong Reich.
I feel that the group should stay on topic, leave room for at least semi - related interests,
and create an atmosphere that is comfortable for those who would see themselves
as some kind of purists while maintaining comfort and respect for those who see Reich
as an inspiration but who are not necessarily attached to any specific approach.

ps. I remember one more book I read actually very recently, the actor ORSON BEANS memoire about his orgone therapy... "Me and the Orgone." -

I never quite grokked what Reich was getting at regarding mysticism, but I felt I understood him better if I simply replaced "mysticism" with "faith".
